35 Years of Community, Conservation, & Connection:
Supporting the Natural Beauty of Our State Parks

Since 1990, the Friends of Willow River and Kinnickinnic State Parks has served as a dedicated 501(c)(3) nonprofit committed to preserving our local landscapes. As a volunteer-led and donor-funded organization, we bridge the gap between community passion and park preservation. Our mission is to enhance the parks’ natural environment and engage visitors through recreation, education, and conservation.

By working hand-in-hand with the DNR, we fund supplemental programs, vital park projects, and family-friendly events that keep our Wisconsin State Parks thriving for future generations.

Building a More Inclusive Outdoors
We believe the beauty of nature should be available to everyone. From the ground up, we’re transforming how our community connects with the environment through two landmark initiatives:
-
The New Nature Center: A state-of-the-art hub for environmental education and conservation. A first look at the future →
-
Accessible Kayak Launch: Breaking down barriers to the water with a new, universally accessible entry point. See the vision →

Keep Our Parks Wild
To protect our local wildlife and maintain the natural beauty of the trails, Willow River and Kinnickinnic State Parks operate as Carry In, Carry Out facilities. We kindly ask all visitors to take their trash and recyclables home with them. By removing your own waste, you help us keep the park’s resources focused on conservation and trail maintenance. Please plan ahead by bringing a reusable bag for your waste and disposing of it once you leave the park. Thank you for helping the Friends of Willow River and Kinnickinnic State Parks keep our home clean!
