Willow River State Park, Hudson, WI

This is a Willow River State Park Open House Day – FREE PARK ADMISSION for all visitors.

TIMED TRAIL CHALLENGE RACES: 

The race courses are a scenic mix of challenging climbs and descents through Willow River State Park. Run along the banks of the Willow River, past beaver ponds, and across the base of breathtaking Willow Falls.

Choose among 6.6K, 10.6K, or 21.1K (Half Marathon) distances. Each race is not only longer but more challenging than the last!

KIDS' OBSTACLE CHALLENGE: This is a wildly popular event for ages 12 and under and just $5 per child. Each participant receives a medal and goodie bag. Parents are encouraged to run along with younger children. All participants must be registered and wear a race bib. The event starts at 11:00.

FAMILY FUN WALK: Sign up as a family for a scenic 3K walk along the beautiful Willow River. Well behaved, leashed dogs are welcome in this event. Fee per any size family is only $15.​​ ​

START TIMES:  Half Marathon starts at 8:45 a.m. The 10.6K start is 10:00 and Family Fun Walk start soon after that. The 6.6K racers board the shuttle bus by 9:45 to travel to their race start. 

  • Race-day registration and packet pick-up begins at 7:30 a.m. and closes at 8:15 a.m. for Half Marathon; 9:00 a.m. for other distances. 

  • Participants registering before race day in the Half Marathon, 10.6K and 6.6K events receive a Willow River Trail Challenge T-shirt. 

  • The 21.1K (Half Marathon) and 10.6K courses start at the beach picnic area. 

  • The 6.6K course participants will board a bus and be shuttled to their start. 

  • All courses finish under the official FINISH banner at the beach picnic area.

  • Medals are awarded to age-class winners.

  • Overall male and female winners of each race will be crowned King and Queen of the Hills.

VOLUNTEERS: Volunteers are critical to the success of the race. We have lots of fun volunteer tasks both on race day and in the days leading up to race day. All volunteers receive a free T-shirt, snacks and light lunch. Click the VOLUNTEER button above to sign up.

SUPPORT OUR PARK AND COMMUNITY: The Friends of Willow River and Kinnickinnic State Parks is a members-based group of volunteers who work together with the park managers to organize and fund supplemental park programs, projects and events. The River Willow Trail Challenge is one of the largest fundraisers for the Friends of Willow River and Kinnickinnic State Parks. All proceeds from this event go into hiring a naturalist, creating new events and making the Willow River and Kinnickinnic State Parks better than ever.
